How to get an
Italian passport
Italy has a long history of emigration. Now, there are millions of people across the globe with Italian heritage, particularly in the USA. Luckily, this is one of the easiest ways to get Italian citizenship.
Citizenship through descent
Do you have an Italian parent, grandparent or great-grandparent? You could be eligible to claim Italian citizenship through descent.
The rules around Italian citizenship are complex and depend upon:
- Your relative did not become naturalized in another country before your birth.
- If you are relying on a female relative, as mothers could not automatically transfer Italian citizenship before 1948.
However, with the right legal representative on your side, it may be possible to mount a successful challenge to these rules.

Other Options
If you do not qualify for Italian citizenship through descent, then there may be other options available.
Citizenship through marriage
Citizenship through naturalization
Long Stay Visa leading to Italian citizenship
Wanting to retire in Italy?
Investing or making a large donation?
